In October 2013, my mom received news at her yearly check up with her oncology team that, while she was still in remission from lymphoma, she now faced a new diagnosis; breast cancer. While all of us were disheartened to learn my mom would begin a second battle against cancer within only a couple years of her first diagnosis, my mom never skipped a beat. Regardless of how she may be feeling on the inside, she continues to exude optimism, strength, and courage. The picture depicted here highlights her optimistic attitude and ability to always see the glass half full; neckbrace and all--she still managed to see the good in each day and show the world her beautiful smile. I have been so privileged to have the opportunity to have this woman as my mother to teach me the true meaning of perserverance, strength, and hope. I am so proud of all she has overcome and continues to overcome in her fight against this awful disease.
On May 11th, I will be running in the Pink Ribbon Run 5k with my aunt and sister in honor of my mother's battle against breast cancer and to honor my aunts win against breast cancer.
Please consider donating whatever you can to support funding for breast cancer research in memory of those who have lost their lives to breast cancer, those who have won the battle, and those who continue to fight every day.
