BENEFITING: FAYETTE COUNTY ANIMAL RESCUE
Some of the most hardest calls we receive at Fayette County Animal Rescue is about a pregnant dog or cat, or one that just gave birth. The poor mom is doing all that she can to care for her babies, usually at the expense of her own physical health.
When we get a call about a pregnant dog or cat in terrible condition like all of you I'm sure, we want to help. The very idea of a pregnant mother starving to death as she desperately tries to feed her babies is heartwrenching. However the costs to care for her and her babies can be extremely high. On average it costs $250 per animal just for their routine care like vaccinations, spay/neuter, deworming, etc. That doesn't even cover their food or any other medicines they may need or heaven help us if we have to bottle feed them. Multiply that times a litter of 8-12 you can see how difficult it is for us to save them. But we desperately want to and we can do it with your help.
This fundraiser is to raise money specifically for momma dogs and their babies. Whether they are still pregnant when we rescue them or have given birth and are caring for their little ones, we want to be able to financially bring them in and provide the care they require.
This fund is named after Natalie, a black lab that we rescued in 2005. Natalie was rescued with her 7 two week old puppies. She was in horrific shape. She had kept her babies alive and in good shape at the expense of herself. She died one week after we rescued her. We bottled fed all of her babies and thankfully, they all made it through. However even after 9 years, Natalie remains a tragic reminder of the love a mother has for her babies and what she will sacrifice for them.
