Raised by Jamaican parents in Brooklyn, New York, Tevonne "T.E.V" Hemmans found his balance under the wings of a disciplinary mother and mentoring father. T.E.V's roots can be traced back to music at an early age, growing up in the studio with an uncle as a producer and another uncle as a manager.
In 2008, at the age of 16, T.E.V created a t-shirt line with a unique cartoonish design and labeled "Creative Boys Culture" underneath it. A movement was born. T.E.V gathered his schoolmates and neighborhood friends to form a clique called Creative Boys Culture or CBC. His intentions were to get his friends, that were in danger with the community and close to trouble with the law, to focus on expressing themselves through their talents and making something of it. It did just that! That same year, T.E.V and C.B.C landed a televised segment on BET’s Rap City “Spit Ya Game” wearing the self branded t-shirt, gaining exposure in his community and borough.
In 2010, as a senior in high school, T.E.V released a single and music video/commercial pitch for his song "BBM Mail", hoping to catch the attention of Blackberry. The video and song went viral through social media! Later that year, T.E.V seized yet another opportunity and landed a televised performance on BET’s 106 & Park ‘Teen Hip Hop Showcase’; where he competed against Hip Hop artist Dizzy Wright. Later that year, he graduated to the University of New Haven in Connecticut, studying graphic design and fine art and where he met Philly Hip Hop native, Joie Kathos.
In 2011, The two collaborated on an anti-bullying tour that went from high schools to colleges in New York and Connecticut. After seeing how well the tour went, T.E.V and his best friend, John Crawford, gathered in his dorm room to expand the movement into an annual tour; reaching the hearts of adolescents facing challenges such as obesity and violence, in addition to bullying. All throughout 2012, the tour gained media exposure on national news stations, newspapers, earned blog features and has allowed T.E.V to perform at the Madison Square Garden arena in NYC! Later in 2013, the movement spread across the nation to California, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
Now, T.E.V and C.B.C is launching a brand new tour, "Stop Bullying, Be Creative!" with featured performances in each city. He is also releasing his anticipated EP this Spring. "Music is like a canvas, I just choose to paint a little differently."
