On Saturday, November 3, 2013, I will be running the ING NYC Marathon with Team CDF Gluten-Free™ to help us raise money for the Celiac Disease Foundation.
Why is this important to me? Five years ago I was training for my first Ironman event and was tired ALL THE TIME! I went to a sports doctor to try to figure out what I was doing wrong nutritionally. She ran a bunch of tests and determined that I was anemic and malnourish! That didn't make sense, since I ate a pretty healthy diet. Fortunately, this doctor was aware of how Celiac Disease (CD) affects people and suggested I get tested. Sure enough, I had CD and had to rethink my entire nutrition plan for Ironman (and life)!
At that time, I also had my teenage daughters tested. One has CD, and the other has non-CD gluten sensitivity. It's really hard to be a teenager who can't eat gluten!
The money I raise goes directly towards summer camp scholarships for children on the gluten-free diet. It will also go toward rasing awareness of celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity among the medical community.
Please consider donating $1, $2, $5 or even $10 per mile, or any amount that works with your budget. To donate, you can click the "Donate to this Fundraiser" button, or send a check made payable to Celiac Disease Foundation to:
