Our Mission

Support our mission by creating your own fundraiser.

Thai CDC was founded in 1994 to address the emergency relief needs of individuals and families adversely affected by the 1992 Los Angeles Civil Unrest and the 1994 Northridge Earthquake.  Because we believe that all peoples have a basic right to a decent standard of living and quality of life, our mission is to "advance the social and economic well-being of low and moderate income Thais and other ethnic communities in the greater Los Angeles area through a comprehensive community development strategy including human rights advocacy, affordable housing, access to health care, promotion of small businesses, neighborhood empowerment and social enterprises."

In the succeeding twenty two years, we have been fulfilling our core mission of community economic development with programs and projects like our East Hollywood Certified Farmers’ Markets (EHCFM), our 106 units of affordable multi-family and senior housing, our Small Business Program (SBP), our Slavery Eradication and Rights Initiative (SERI), and our Family Source Center. The Small Business Program serves 500 entrepreneurs and small businesses each year with access to capital, business counseling, and technical assistance.  The SERI program has served over 2,000 victims of human trafficking and their families through survivor support, legal aid, and restitution won from the individuals and companies involved in the human trafficking and slavery. We also provide small business workshops and entrepreneurship training, housing counseling and foreclosure prevention, legal and social services, healthcare access, and public benefit enrollment.

As a project to address food insecurity and access to healthy foods, our Thursday farmers’ market serves 15,000 low-income consumers and provides over $25,000 in Market Matches to public beneficiaries annually. Our second farmers’ market on Saturdays opened recently and is anticipated to serve 45,000 consumers a year and provide over $50,000 in Market Matches to public beneficiaries. We are also part of the Hollywood Family Source Center, which provides legal services, financial and computer literacy classes, case management, parenting and GED classes, public benefit enrollments as well as tutoring and college preparation for youths (1st through 12th grade). Thai CDC also campaigned for and won the designation of Thai Town in East Hollywood in 1999, the only Thai Town in the nation and has been developing and revitalizing that neighborhood ever since through creative placemaking strategies, beautification projects, streetscaping, tree planting, and cultural preservation and heritage marketing such as festivals and cultural days.
