EVENT DATE Feb 01, 2016
Have you ever had a dream or vision that was inside of you just waiting to burst out, yet had no clue how to start? Well, after 2 years, my dream is finally about to take its first step to become a reality...
On October 17th, 2015 I will be traveling to Chiang Mai, Thailand for four months, to work with an organization called Art Relief International. Under ARI, I will be planning, organizing, leading, facilitating, and helping out with educational and therapeutic workshops using different aspects of the creative arts. I plan to bring my love of music and dance to these social groups, ranging from children and adults with disabilities to indigenous hill tribes and juveniles in detention centers. Despite the amazing work ARI does for the people of Chiang Mai, the aspect of this opportunity I am most excited about is the encouragement and support to launch my own personal arts-related project using Art Relief International's resources and connections. This discovery brought a once forgotten vision back into the realm of a possibility!
The mission of my personal project is to use inspirational music and songwriting as an opportunity for youth to tell remarkable stories, gain positive self-image, forge a creative sense of purpose, and be empowered to uplift their local communities through a service learning project. The ultimate goal is to create a ripple effect of youth becoming influential, positive agents of change throughout the global community. The youth would write original music, with the help of local musicians as well as US musicians, to create a live showcase and cultural memento documentary at the end of a 3-6month period. The money raised from the showcase and documentary would be a part of a service-learning fundraiser, with proceeds purposed to improve their community, and given to a cause of the groups' choice.
This project will not stop after my time in Thailand ends. My hope is for the project to continue in Thailand, as well as expand and establish programs in many other countries and continents, until it becomes a global movement! However, in order to achieve the big picture, I must first make it to Thailand! This is where you and your financial support would mean the most! As Art Relief International is a volunteer opportunity, all of the expenses are my responsibility including program fee, flight, visa, vaccinations, etc. Any donation, big or small, will be a great help to offset the costs of this amazing opportunity. I thank you so much for your support!
