THE STORY:

Hello, my name is Thais. In the last year, I have lost both my mother and grandmother to cancer within 10 months of each other. I worked alongside hospice to provide care, bathing; etc. Unable to work to care for my mother and grandmother, I am now the sole caregiver to my 96-year-old great- grandfather (my grandmother's father). I am married, but my husband has filled for divorce and said he is "tired of taking care of sick people". The death of my family members has been out of my control and I have done the best that I could given my circumstances.

Soon, my great-grandfather and I will be practically out on the street. His social security check is very small, and we will not be able to survive with it alone. He is still well of mind and thankfully, of health- but at his age he does need help with most basic things and supervision. He does not belong in a nursing home, and I want to avoid putting him there. I cannot afford a family attorney and my soon to be ex-husband refuses to help me financially to get an apartment or get back on our feet.

We are desperate, with no other family to turn to. Our only options at this point once divorce is finalized will be a homeless shelter for me and nursing home for him. Any money raised here will be used to get an apartment, furniture, food, clothing, and keeping us on our feet till I find him an assisted living home and get back to work to support us both.

Any contribution will help, even $1. Please help my great-grandfather and I get back on our feet and help me stay out of a shelter.
