BENEFITING: Action Against Hunger USA
"What the heck is 'Thanksgiveback', is this one of them newfangled 'Hallmark' holidays?"
No, concerned citizen, it is not! Thanksgiveback is a holiday, celebrating what we have, and sharing it with those that don't.
About 805 million people on earth do not have access to enough food to live a healthy, active life(1). At the same time, $2,375,000,000 or $54.18 per U.S. household was spent on Thanksgiving food in 2013(2). Are you seeing the disconnect?
I love Thanksgiving, and in the spirit of the holiday I wanted to give thanks for what I have, and make sure others get to share in that expereience.
"Well, okay, but who are you and why are you in my house?"
Good question, stranger! My name is Israel S., and it's a pleasure to meet you. All my life I've loved helping people, when and where I can, and now thanks to the internet it's easier than ever.
"But why should I help?"
Have you ever been on the Wikipedia and it tells you "If every person that read this donated $1, we'd reach our goal in like two seconds"? That's pretty much the same logic here: why not you? Give what you can, and feel good about yourself this Thanksgiving. Have an extra slice of pie, you earned it.
"Where's my money going?"
All the money raised is going to Action Against Hunger (www.actionagainsthunger.org), a charity determined "to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition," or in simpler terms, kick hunger's butt.
"Can I trust them?"
Does a bear poo in the woods? Unless he has a toilet, yes.
Action Against Hunger recevied a 4 out of 4 star rating by Charity Navigator(1), and a score of 'A' from Charity Watch(2), both reliable and trusted charity evaluation services.
"What about this 'Crowdrise', are they up to snuff?"
You'd better believe it. Spend any time browsing this site and you'll come to find just how down to earth these people are.
You can read all about them, and how awesome they are, in their FAQ:
"Okay, so you've convinced me, how do I donate?"
You don't need a Crowdrise account to donate, but you do need a credit or debit card.
If you do decide to donate, thank you. Thank you so much. Your money will be going to a great cause, and you can feel better about yourself as you stuff food in to your mouth.
I want to reach, (and hopefully exceed) my goal before Thanksgiving, Thursday November 27th. I currently have the goal set to $300, but if we reach it before then, I'll up it.
