EVENT DATE: Jul 16, 2017
I am participating in the NYC Triathlon again this July in memory of an amazing young man, Alex ("Champ") Munoz. Most people don't think about swimming in the Hudson River once, let alone twice, but I have an excellent reason: The AMMF is committed to raising awareness for teen and childhood cancer and provides gifts and technology to the Oncology unit at CHOP. I had the pleasure of working with Alex and his family as their Social Worker at CHOP and I am honored to be able to support their mission in his memory. Alex passed away on 11/11/2014, when he was 16 years old. Before he died, he and I were able to talk about how he wanted to be remembered. He told me that he wanted to give back to CHOP and also help support other teens who were "stuck in the hospital." After Alex died, his parents took this idea and ran with it, starting the Alex Munoz Memorial Fund (AMMF). Because Alex cared so much for the other children and teens he saw suffering in the cancer community, the AMMF will also be contributing funds to various organizations that help support families of children with cancer. The goal of AMMF is to raise awareness, lift the hearts of these warriors, and fulfill Alex’s wishes. For more information, please visit www.alexmunoz.org. Thank you for your contribution and support!
