BENEFITING: MONTEFIORE MEDICAL CENTER
ORGANIZER: MONTEFIORE MEDICAL CENTER
As many of you know, I am planning on running my first Marathon (ever) this year. As a life long runner with only a few formal races under my belt, I am excited, nervous, intimidated and motivated all at once. Barring any major injuries (my body isn't as young as it used to be) I will be running the New York City Marathon on November 5, 2017. As extra motivation, I will be fundraising for the Children's Hospital of Montefiore (CHAM). I am extremely fortunate not to have had my life affected by cancer; however, I have great and close friends who have not been so lucky. In the midst of researching different organizations I could run the marathon in support of, I came across CHAM.
CHAM is an amazing organization that helps people living with cancer. One of my oldest and dearest friends did her pediatrics training at CHAM and is now a pediatric oncologist. Julie and I have had numerous conversations about the truly altruistic work that CHAM does, about the sacrifices that its staff makes and about the bravery of the children that the hospital treats. Many of the children who come to CHAM are local kids who grew up in the Bronx. These kids face unimaginable challenges and have few resources, but at CHAM they find excellent medical care, support, and hope. The money that we raise through this program will directly help these kids by paying for child life programming, music therapy, integrative medicine and support groups for parents. I am excited and feel very fortunate to contribute to the CHAM family by raising my goal of $3,000.
