BENEFITING: MONTEFIORE MEDICAL CENTER
ORGANIZER: MONTEFIORE MEDICAL CENTER
Let me tell you why I run... When I was in grade school my parents gently pointed out that my eyes and hands in no way worked together well. So much for sports with balls, bats and racquets. Fortunately it only took a pair of gym shoes to get me out the door and into the sport of a lifetime. Over the decades I have run in cities and countries around the world. It is my special way of meeting new people and places.
As the Quality in Life team physician I get to help children be their best selves even in their worst moments. Parents would never bring their child to a hospital if they could care for them at home. So when a parent brings their most beloved child to the hospital seeking care it is up to us at CHAM to treat them like our own. That is why we refer to ourselves as the CHAMily. Each day families come from all over the world to make New York City their home and we are fortunate in the Bronx to have the flags of many nations under one roof. Walking the halls at CHAM you hear so many languages and the most universal of all is that of the love a a family toward their child. This resonates in laughter as they try to keep focused on the positive moments.
Parents look to us for help and support. They ask for guidance, a sounding board and sometimes just a gentle hand or shoulder to cry on. At CHAM you will find warm, caring people ready to get to know your family and work their hardest to make life a little bit better.
Here are ways your money can help our CHAMily
$50 will help us provide bedside yoga and relaxation for 2 families per hour during their hospital stay
$100 will help our patients have better sleep while receiving treatments in our infusion suite through eye masks, ear plugs and warm blankets
$250 will help us give 10 bathrobes to children and teens during their stay allowing them to make their way to our playrooms with comfort and dignity
$500 will help us provide in home physician visits for a year to the most critically ill children and allow them to receive all the care they would in a hospital visit setting
$1000 will help support the creation of a family council where parents and staff can meet regularly to get feedback and brainstorm new ways to improve patient care
