BENEFITING: FRIENDS OF UTAH AVALANCHE FORE CAST CENTER INC
In 1998, Andrew McLean laid out 90 of the most daring ski lines in the mountains of northern Utah in his guidebook, "The Chuting Gallery: A Guide to Steep Skiing in the Wasatch Range." Join me this winter as I set out to raise support for Utah non-profits by skiing all 90 lines—in one winter. I am raising money for 4 non-profits in succession, beginning with the Utah Avalanche Center, followed by SheJumps, Save Our Canyons, and Wasatch Adaptive Sports.
Though the UAC is funded through the National Forest Service, the vast majority of their funding comes from grants, fundraising, and private donations. The UAC's vast knowledge and constant monitoring of avalanche conditions is critical to the ski culture of not just the Wasatch, but all of Utah, and they consistently set the benchmark for other avalanche forecasting centers. If you have ever read a UAC advisory before venturing out into the backcountry, please consider giving. Even the smallest contribution goes a long way.
