BENEFITING: American Brain Tumor Association
When we think of our grandmothers we immediately think “kind”, “warm”, “inspiration” and “unconditional love”. To the Randhawa family, Davinder Kaur was all of these and much more. Biji, as she is affectionately known as, will forever be the heart and soul of the Randhawa family. Biji’s infectious smile and sweet soul left its mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her husband, two sons, two daughter-in-laws, and eight grandchildren all had their own special relationship with Biji and the impact she had on their lives cannot be put into words.
I had the pleasure of experiencing one of the special bonds that Biji had with one of her granddaughters, Emma. Emma’s face lit up every time she would tell me about Biji. A bright smile came across her face as she told me old stories about Biji and her family. I could see that Biji’s laugh and her love of family and ice cream sandwiches had rubbed off on Emma.
Last October we lost our beloved Biji to Glioblastoma (GBM), a highly malignant type of brain cancer that affects over 12,000 people a year. Treatment for Glioblastoma can be difficult because the tumors contain many different types of cells, which can all respond differently to the various types of treatments. After Biji had lost her battle with brain cancer, Emma had her sights set on setting up an event to raise money to fund brain cancer treatment research in Biji's honor.
On June 24th, 2017, I will be proposing to Emma! As part of the proposal, the Randhawa family and I are planning a SURPRISE fundraiser to turn Emma’s vision into a reality. The plan is to have our family and friends waiting at Public House (140 East 41st Street, NY, NY 10017; 41st street between 3rd Avenue and Lexington Avenue) to surprise her. The bar will be offering a 2-hour open bar from 4PM to 6PM for $35/person and will donate a part of the proceeds to the American Brain Tumor Association (www.abta.org). We have also set up this page for people to individually contribute to the ABTA to help us raise as much as we can. Be aware that Emma has NO IDEA that we are planning this event, so don’t ruin the surprise! Please join us in celebrating the life of a beautiful woman, a major step in Emma’s life and mine and contribute to a great cause! We hope to see you there!
