Hi All! My name's Amanda – thank you for visiting to learn more!
This will be my first marathon ever and I am excited to be supporting the incredible DeGregorio Family Foundation ("DFF"). I will be running for my father who was diagnosed with a 3 inch tumor and Stage 3 esophagus cancer in April 2017; he is currently undergoing chemotherapy, radiation treatment and immunotherapy treatment. My dad is one of the kindest and smartest people I have ever known and I feel blessed everyday to be his daughter. His strength, grace and optimism through his fight inspire me and I hope we can make a difference.
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart to all who are able to donate or support me as I pursue this journey. My family and I appreciate the support immeasurably and we hope we can make a difference in the fight against this disease.
With no family history of cancer, living a smoke- and alcohol-free lifestyle and walking 4-6 miles daily, my father's diagnosis came as a surprise to everyone. As I learned more, I was shocked to learn that stomach and esophageal cancers are treated as rare, orphan diseases despite their deadliness and prevalence. and despite aggressive treatments like the removal of the stomach or esophagus, chemotherapy and radiation, the . To make matters worse, there are no high-profile advocacy groups for the disease and it is often overlooked by larger cancer research organizations, resulting in little funding to support research on these deadly cancers and further stalling medical progress in its prevention or improvement in survival once diagnosed.
100% of funds raised will go directly to research for stomach and esophageal cancers. With your help we can make a difference!
The DFF was founded in 2006 after a tenth member of the DeGregorio family succumbed to stomach cancer and was found to have possessed a rare gene that causes the disease and other common cancers. Her surviving siblings, who both tested negative for the gene, created the Foundation to raise funds for research on the hereditary and non-hereditary varieties of stomach and esophageal cancer.
The purpose of DFF is to monetarily support research and education and to encourage collaboration amongst researchers in order to facilitate earlier diagnosis and novel treatment therapies for stomach and esophageal cancer related disorders. DFF seeks to shift the tide and strive towards the goal of containment and treatment of these cancers. The Foundation also uses 100% of funds raised to directly research stomach and esophageal cancers. With your help we can make a difference and save lives!
