BENEFITING: THE DEGREGORIO FAMILY FOUNDATION INC
ORGANIZER: THE DEGREGORIO FAMILY FOUNDATION INC
For the NYC Marathon, I am teaming up with the DeGregorio Family Foundation (DFF) to raise money to further the DFF's mission of raising awareness and funding the reaseach to improve early detection and treatment of gastric and esophageal cancer. This foundation means a lot to me.
Almost 3 years ago, I lost my father, Alex Fischetti, to stomach cancer. Despite undergoing CAT Scans and endoscopies in March 2014, the cancer was not detected. By May 2014, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Stomach Cancer that had spread throughout his body. After being in the hospital for 2 months, he passed away. DFF's mission is very close to my heart and I hope through this fundraiser I can raise awareness for this terrible disease.
Stomach and esophageal cancers are among the fastest growing and most underfunded cancers in the world. Although these two cancers take over a million of lives a year, they are both largely ignored by the media. The DeGregorio Family Foundation seeks to promote and facilitate education and collaborative research on the pathogenesis, early diagnosis, and treatment of Upper Gastrointestinal Malignancies. All funds raised go directly to providing grants to innovative researchers. To learn more about DFF please visit their website at www.degregorio.org.
Please consider supporting DFF and helping us reach our goal by donating to the fundraising campaign here. This one's for you, Dad!
