At approximately 14:30 Pm on April 12th, a major fire destroyed a Lahu tribe village in Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai province, Mae Ai district. No fatalities or injuries are reported but all farm and domestic animals were killed. Approximately 50 houses as well as shops and meeting halls were destroyed. More than 200 people, including about 75 children have lost everything including life savings, personal belongings and family air looms. They have been evacuated but relocation is still in progress.
Required relocation is still in progress and local donations of food and clothing are getting underway. More such donations of essentials are hoped to arrive soon, and the needs that have been identified by an initial inventory are listed below.
