BENEFITING: Rebecca's Gift
The first Rebecca’s Gift Unevent. It’ll be your best night in all year. For 2016 we invite you to stay home in your PJs, in front of your own tv, eating your own popcorn instead walking, soliciting donations, organizing, volunteering and attending send us a check while wearing your fuzzy bunny slippers. Rebecca’s Gift is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing healing family vacations after the death of a child in honor and memory of Rebecca Alison Meyer. After Rebecca’s death at age six from an aggressive brain tumor, her family was thrown into a world of grief. As they started to emerge from their intensive grief, they started to travel again. With each trip, they created new memories and healed a little. Rebecca’s Gift was created to share the gift of travel and healing with other grieving families. The siblings of an extremely sick and dying child lack control over the regular happenings in their lives. Their parents are burdened with the day-to-day realities of caregiving at its most difficult, and the siblings can’t help but feel sidelined. There is jealousy, hurt, sadness, grief, guilt…so many emotions, so many hard moments for a child to understand and process. After their brother or sister dies, they are left to figure out their place in a fractured family, right at the moment their parents are most stricken with grief. Going on a family trip gives these children and their parents a chance to have their own special space. Rebecca’s Gift provides that space away from the everyday rhythm of life for families who have experienced the death of a child to support and assist their healing process through a place to relax, rebuild, and reconnect. Please help however you can.
