EVENT: TI Education Challenge
By 2018, 779,000 jobs will require a degree in STEM, but current trends show only 550,000 will actually earn a STEM degree. African-Americans are underrepresented in the workforce and additionally, only 10% of African-Americans work in STEM fields. The Give Back Collaborative, Inc. specializes in the promotion and enrichment of STEM education for African-American and minority students through after-school enrichment programming in underserved communities and low-performing schools. Despite a national focus on directing more students towards science, technology, engineering, and math fields, minorities and women still are no more diverse in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) workforce now than in 2001. We aim to encourage and increase levels of interest in STEM, but we cannot achieve our goals alone. The Give Back Collaborative, Inc. strives to expose and increase the number of African-American and minority students choosing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics) career paths through high school, college, and into their professional lives. We specialize in not only planting the seed, but harvesting the crop as we work from the ground up and are the pipeline for minorities in STEM fields from classrooms to boardrooms.
