BENEFITING: Global Health Innovations
The HIV/AIDS epidemic kills a child every minute. That’s 6,000 African people per day and over 2 million babies each year. These deaths are both preventable and treatable, but the current system is broken. Babies and mothers fall through the cracks all too often. But there is hope for these mothers and babies. Simple HIV testing for pregnant women, specialized testing for infants born to HIV-positive mothers, and treatment if they are positive, has proven to save lives. The HITSystem is an online system that facilitates improved communication between clinics, laboratories, and mothers in order to increase effective care for HIV-positive mothers and their babies.
