For more than 20 years, the #1 violent crime in Marin County has been domestic violence. Nearly 1,000 cases are reported annually – and we know that 75% of cases go unreported. It’s a traumatic, terrifying and emotionally-scarring violence which remains to this day, largely a hidden crime. The aim of Center for Domestic Peace is to eliminate domestic violence – but until we achieve that, we will provide urgent services and programs that protect and enhance victim safety.
One of the services we provide is emergency shelter. Women and children need a safe and secure place to heal, rest, make plans for the future, and become empowered. In the past 4 years, we have given refuge to over 250 women and over 350 children at our emergency shelter. But more shelter beds are needed, and that’s where our story really begins for this campaign.
We launched The House that Love Built: Saving Lives One Room at a Time this past spring with the goal of providing 10 additional beds, to offer a total of 30. With generous partial support from the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and five Rotary Clubs in Marin, we are converting existing office space into 3 more bedrooms and adding a studio to house the hotline and advocate staff. Still, we do not have 100% of the funds required to make our vision a reality. To date we have raised $350,000 towards this project.
We need to raise an additional $185,000 by September 30th to ensure that every victim of domestic abuse has a safe place to turn.
Will You Help Us? We are offering an opportunity to directly and tangibly give something meaningful to the hundreds of women and children who come through our shelter each year. You, a group of your friends, your business or club can name one of the items below, and in the process contribute on a much deeper level. The guests in the shelter will know there is a community supporting their journey to heal. And each of you who give will know that your efforts have real and immediate impact—right at home.
We will include your name as a sponsor via our website, newsletter, press release, etc. (unless you chose to remain anonymous), and offer you recognition on a garden stone at the shelter as one of our donors to this project.
You can purchase one or more of the items below:
Kitchen Upgrades/Appliance $15,000
Living Room Upgrade $8,000
Hotline Office Build Out $35,000

Creating change in the lives of the women and children in our shelter is not easily articulated; it is somewhat like the challenge of measuring the impact of watering a seed. What we can say for certain is that your investment is stopping domestic violence - one individual, one family, one community at a time. Center for Domestic Peace remains forever hopeful that the day will come when organizations likes ours will no longer be necessary. To that end, we are grateful for your partnership and support.
