BENEFITING: JOHN RITTER FOUNDATION FOR AORTIC HEALTH
ORGANIZER: JOHN RITTER FOUNDATION FOR AORTIC HEALTH
Over the past few years, I've been fortunate to be running with an amazing group of women, the Minerva Muses. While there are many women's running groups, none of them holds a candle to this one. Why? Because this group is led by an incredible woman, Micaela, who selflessly gives of her time and talents to bring women together through running. With the help of her coaching and guidance, I have been able to accomplish more than I've ever dreamed imaginable. Together, we have run many miles and shared many stories.
It is because of one of Micaela’s stories that I am training to run the New York City Marathon. You see, Micaela lost her father to an aortic dissection. It's never easy to lose a loved one, but when they are so young and it is so sudden, it is even more tragic. When the opportunity arose to use my love of running to help spread the message of the John Ritter Foundation, I was beyond excited and honored.
We also suffered a loss in our own family. My father-in-law recently lost his fight due to complications he suffered after undergoing heart valve replacement surgery. The hole that this has left in our family and in our lives is immeasurable.
By running with Team Ritter, I feel like I get to give back to the woman who has given me so much and asked for nothing in return. It also gives me a platform from which I can be an active participant in the campaign against heart disease. Through my fundraising efforts, I hope to accomplish three things: honor my father-in-law, provide Micaela with a much deserved thank you, and run the New York City Marathon in honor of those who can't.
