Little Portion Community Project

The Little Portion Community Project

We are a small health charity offering counselling, information and support to people experiencing stress or anxiety. Our values are respect, understanding, compassion, kindness and working with hope.

We offer counselling, information and support to people experiencing stress or anxiety, including people who have been victims of crime.

A lot of people we have helped have experienced profound difficulties in their lives, such as abuse, addiction, anxiety, cancer, depression, disability, eating disorders, obsessions, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, post-traumatic stress, service veterans and trauma, as well as many others.

We treat the people we help with respect, understanding, compassion and kindness. We always aim to instil a sense of hope in those we help.

We are a very small charity and we need additional funding for:

1. Delivering counselling, coaching and mentoring to local communities

2. Providing information on mental health to local communities

3. Providing signposting service on mental health to local communities

4. Meeting the essential running costs of the charity such as reimburse expenses of volunteers

Our patron is a retired Supreme Court Judge. We have a Board of Trustees and a large group of Advisers, many of whom are experienced professionals.

The Chair is supported by several Legal Advisers, three Chartered Accountants and two Counselling Supervisors (experts in mental health). We have a charity bank account and the Chartered Accountants have helped us with internal audits (we passed all internal audits).

We have 55 eminent and distinguished professionals as Honorary Life Members, including a former Archbishop of Canterbury, a retired Catholic Cardinal, Hospital Consultants and University Professors.

We hold organisational membership of the Small Charities Coalition, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, the Tower Hamlets Council for Voluntary Service and the Victims Services Alliance.

The expert who delivers the free service is a highly qualified senior professional with registered counsellor status awarded by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is on the BACP Register approved by the Professional Standards Authority. He is also a Professional Member of the American Counselling Association.

We are recognised by the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) as a charity for tax purpose in line with Schedule 6 of the Finance Act 2010. Our HMRC Charity Reference Number is EW33811

We are a charity, everything in this community project is entirely for the benefit of the public. This important community project fully meets the requirements of being a charity set by the Charity Commission, which are:

(1) it was set up to benefit the public

(2) its aims and purposes are all charitable

(3) we have at least 3 people who agreed to be Trustees

However, we are not yet registered with the Charity Commission, because Section 30(2)(d) of the Charities Act 2011 states that a small charity whose gross income does not exceed £5,000 is not required to be registered with the Charity Commission.

The Charity Commission (the Regulator for charities in England and Wales) confirmed that in order to avoid unnecessary administrative costs, they don’t register small charities whose income is less than £5,000 a year.

The Charity Commission states that a small charitable organisation with an income that does not exceed £5,000 can enjoy the benefits of charitable status without having to meet the regulatory requirements of registered charities.
