THE STORY:

As the daughter, daughter-in-law, and wife of men who served our country and the mother of an active serviceman; I am proud to say that over three generations of my family have been Veterans. I am all too familiar with the sacrifices, demands, and cost each service man and woman and their families expend as they contribute to the betterment of our country and world. Their commitment is enormous, their sacrifices, almost unimaginable. The return to normalcy once a tour of duty is up, can be impossible to achieve.

Through this CrowdRise campaign, I invite you to support a new project and mission that will afford all of us an opportunity, however small, to give something back to our Veterans and provide them with a sense of our appreciation.

THE LOFT at HOBBLE INN, in Stowe, VT, will be a place of respite and relaxation for Veterans, Reservists, Active duty personnel, Retired Military and their loved ones. Giving back to those who have served, I hope to share this modest offer of a stay at the Inn to Veterans of all wars and conflicts, all ages and all needs; we will honor a Veteran's request for a vacation, a Serviceman or woman returning from or preparing for deployment, a retired Veteran on a fixed income looking for a vacation getaway, or a Veteran in need of short-term housing while they transition to school, to a new home or job.

There are nearly 22 million living veterans in the United States today. More than five million have served since 9/11 alone. Many come home to face challenges from traumatic stress, goals for education, increased healthcare needs, and other challenges. Veterans deal with healthcare, housing and employment issues that are not the same as civilians. It is my wish to give back to them in a way that restores their peace and well-being and shows them how much they are cared about and respected.

THE LOFT at HOBBLE INN will offer at no cost, a place for Veterans to vacation in the beautiful resort town of Stowe, Vermont. This comfortable one bedroom apartment was designed by a noted Vermont architect and we have received state approval and all the necessary local permits to begin construction. The Loft will be housed in our 150 year old Inn, designed for the benefit of our Veterans.

My personal commitment to this project is to complete THE LOFT and begin welcoming guests by the Spring of 2018. Construction has begun, and it is exciting to see this new space evolve, while honoring the age of the 150 year old carriage barn which will house it.

Might you join us in honoring our Veterans and Servicemen and women with a financial gift?

Your donation will help us complete this project and begin offering our Veterans an opportunity to refocus and restore themselves in a setting that is both tranquil and energizing. Your donation means we can move THE LOFT forward to completion and support our Veterans in this modest but helpful way.

On behalf of my late father, Clement J. Curtis (10th Mountain Division), late father-in-law, Ferman G. Skelton (Navy), my late husband, William Owen Skelton (Army), my son, W.G. Skelton (Marines), and all the Veterans and their families who deserve our respect, appreciation and support, I thank you.

With gratitude,

Mary Skelton
