A few months ago I entered the lottery for the New York Marathon without even considering the fact that they might actually pull my name out of their very large hat (the acceptance rate is around 18%). It seems somehow that serendipity is my strongest ally because I was one of the lucky few that won a spot to run on November 6, 2016. This was my first time playing the lottery and I won, should I move on to the powerball next??
Obviously, I am super stoked about this opportunity to be a part of the largest marathon in the world but I need all of the support I can get. For that reason, I have decided to run to raise money for the Lower Eastside Girls Club. I really want to give back to a local organization and I love the mission of this community (please keep reading to hear more about them!).
This is my very first marathon and my training has already begun! Right now I'm running on excitement of the recent news that I was accepted but I'm sure in a few months I will hit a training slump and I know that running for something larger than myself will keep me motivated through it. My entry fee has already been paid so all of the donations that I raise are going straight to the Girls Club to empower young women. I hope you will join me in supporting these awesome young daughters and sisters.
~About the Lower Eastside Girls Club of NY~
Established in 1996, the LES Girls Club provides tons of programs for girls ages 8-23 to break the cycle of poverty in that area through education and advocacy. The Lower Eastside is one of the most diverse areas of Manhattan, but it is also the third highest of young people living in poverty. The Girls Club hopes to train the next generation of young women to be strong, entrepreneurial leaders. Strong women empower other women to challenge and change society. Here's their website so you can check out all of their awesome programs and because they can say it much better than I can: http://www.girlsclub.org
