New Jersey Repertory Company (NJ Rep) is thrilled to announce that, from October 1 through 8, it will present the ALL ABOUT EVE FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS, an eight-day event featuring cutting-edge theater, live music, art and photography exhibitions, poetry, and gourmet food and drink. The festival will be the inaugural event at NJ Rep's new West End Arts Center.
We need your support to defray some of the costs of the festival.
The core of the festival consists of seven “Theatre Brut” sessions of four short plays each (28 plays over the course of the festival) that focus on one theme: “All About Eve.” Theatre Brut is meant to be an extension of the concept of Art Brut — or “raw art” — to theater and aptly describes the raw energy generated by presenting short, bold plays with minimal sets, costumes, and props, all in rapid succession, as we will during the festival.
Each of the seven Theatre Brut sessions will last approximately three hours: four different one-act plays will be presented to four different audiences simultaneously, and then the audiences will rotate between the four temporary theaters that we will be creating within the West End Arts Center. At the conclusion of all four plays, guests are invited to enjoy a reception that will include art and photography exhibitions, live music, and gourmet food and drink provided by local restaurants.
In addition to the Theatre Brut sessions, there will be a poetry night, a gallery and photography exhibit opening, and a music night.
Please help support NJ Rep and its effort to bring this exciting event to life.
About NJ Rep
From its inception in 1997, New Jersey Repertory Company has had two primary missions: to make a lasting contribution to the American stage by developing and producing new plays, and to serve as a catalyst for economic and community development through the arts. In twenty seasons at its intimate theater in Long Branch, NJ Rep has produced 116 full productions, 90 of which were world premieres, and has earned a national reputation as an important incubator of new theatrical works. In 2012, NJ Rep received the prestigious National Theater Company Grant from the American Theater Wing, sponsor of the Tony Awards.
About the West End Arts Center
Through a generous anonymous donation, NJ Rep recently purchased a 28,000-square-foot building on more than two acres that is being transformed into the West End Arts Center. When fully realized, the Center will be an important cultural destination — not only for theater, but also for music, cinema, dance, literature and poetry, and the visual arts — that will serve the community for generations to come. The complex will include two intimate theaters, an art cinema, an art museum, a rooftop café, spacious classrooms and studios, and residences for actors, directors, and playwrights.
Although realizing the grand vision for the West End Arts Center will take several years, NJ Rep is already offering programming at the new facility: classes in acting and playwriting have begun, and we will be featuring a wider menu of art instruction later this year. NP Rep will present the All About Eve Festival of the Arts in October, and, in November, we will host a weekend art show.
