BENEFITING: NIGHTINGALE-BAMFORD SCHOOL
ORGANIZER: NIGHTINGALE-BAMFORD SCHOOL
Having been raised in New York City, I watched the marathon from my street corner since I was little. Lost in a world of Britney Spears and West Side Soccer, the possibility of eventually running the NY marathon never occured to me.
Though recently an interest for running has developed, I've never really been a "runner." While the confidence in my physical ability and stamina has always been questionable, my love and gratitude for The Nightingale-Bamford School has always been strong and immense. Not only do I value the friends, teachers, and staff I got to know over thirteen years at the school, but I also have such an appreciation for how Nightingale challenged me as a female student. My academic career started off a little rocky at best (sorry, Mom and Dad--and nope, still can't speak French!), but Nightingale consistently provided me with the skills and support that I needed to eventually succeed and flourish. My education and experience at Nightingale thus shaped me into a fearless person, allowing me to find my voice in and out of the classroom.
This is why when the opportunity came to not only participate in the marathon, but to run the race with and supporting Nightingale, I knew it was time to leave the comfort of my corner and push myself into the city's streets. Nightingale taught me that with determination and dedication, it's possible to achieve your goals even when starting from humble beginnings. Therefore, even with no true running experience and dubious physical capability, I will be running 26.2 miles in November, and I honestly appeciate ANY donation** that allows me to do that.
**all donations will go into Nightingale’s Annual Fund which supports faculty salaries, financial aid, and professional development.
