BENEFITING: NIGHTINGALE-BAMFORD SCHOOL
ORGANIZER: NIGHTINGALE-BAMFORD SCHOOL
You all read that right - I am running my FIRST marathon in November! Not just any marathon but the New York City Marathon (26.2 miles).
I may have signed up on a whim, but for two important reasons.
Going to Nightingale, an all-girls' school, was not my first choice when I entered the Prep for Prep program - however, it was truly the best choice. The school made me become attached to what others would see as a simple plaid skirt. It made me absolutely confident when I was placed in a classroom with men at Colgate because Nightingale helped strengthen my voice during my 6 years there. There were times when I felt a lot of love accompanied by hugs and interesting moments. I will always remember the moment I entered the blue doors (or whatever color your school’s doors are) as well as the moment I left them behind. The experience I gained at an all-girls’ school is a very unique one that can never be replicated, and the school's commitment to the success of every student cannot be continued without our help and my embarrassing running skills.
Along with this, as a child, I never thought I would be able to run a marathon, particularly because of the fear of what could happen with my diabetes, something I was diagnosed with on my 6th birthday. A marathon was all I wanted to do. When the opportunity came to participate in the marathon, I knew it was time to pursue something I thought I could only dream of.
Please show your support by donating to a very important cause, and I will make sure to upload (even more than usual) embarrassing selfies showing my journey. I have until the marathon to raise at least $2,500, so a little bit goes a long way!
