TODAY is the DAY!!!
July 27, 2017
For thirty years, The Open Door has aimed to serve the youth and families in the West End area of Pittsburgh. We believe strongly that the love, safety, and support that we provide are vital to our community as we struggle to escape the challenges that come along with lower income employment, families torn apart by incarceration, broken marriages, and homelessness, and an educational system that has failed many of our students. We are fully committed to offering our programs at little to no cost to our participants, but, of course, we are then charged with coming up with funding that allows our programs to be sustainable. From our 6-week summer camp, Cross Trainers, to our After School program, Friday Night Rec activities, and youth group during the school year, we believe that providing positive role models and intentional support and love can help make all of the difference in a person's life. We know this is true because, thirty years in, and we now find ourselves serving a second generation of children because of their parents' experiences. On July 27, The Open Door will hold a street fair in conjunction with our Cross Trainers summer camp closing ceremony. We want to welcome the entire community to join us for dinner, fair games, and even a basketball tournament, but we also want to continue to honor our commitment to limit the expense for anyone who would like to participate. If you are someone who has been changed by The Open Door, or if you are someone who knows how powerful the gifts of love and security can be in the life of a child for whom very little other evidence of love or security exists, then please consider making a contribution in support of our street fair, and of this ministry. We are grateful for the many people who have sustained this ministry in its first thirty years, and pray that we might continue to expand and improve our mission for many years to come. Thank you!
