BENEFITING: ARCH ST METHODIST CHURCH
Something beautiful is happening on the corner of 13th and Silver Streets in North Philly!
The People's Garden is a place for neighbors of all ages to play, rest, grow and harvest fresh fruits and vegetables, organize, learn, and build community. Over the past year, North Philly neighbors, Serenity House (a ministry of Arch Street United Methodist Church), and other community members have been collaborating and organizing to transform a vacant lot into a community garden. We dreamed of a garden where neighbors could find nutritious food in the midst of a food desert, peace and safety in the midst of a city fraught with violence, and local pride and self-determination in a neighborhood threatened by disinvestment and displacement.
After many long hours of planning and work, our dreams are coming true! Ground has been broken and excitement is rising in the neighborhood as we prepare to begin planting. We have been blessed to discover diverse and valuable gifts and resources among our planning team and neighborhood, but there's a resource we still need, and that's where you come in! We invite you to participate in this wonderful project by donating towards our purchase of seeds, seedlings, soil, tools, a rainwater collection system, food and supplies for work days, tuition for gardening education, and transportation for supplies.
After you donate, please sign up for occasional email updates http://goo.gl/forms/QZ2AQ7Vsx6 and come visit The People's Garden to see how you've helped our plants and our community flourish!
