Sara McDowell wrote -As you may know, I am passionate about helping youth in West Virginia believe, succeed and achieve. Not only do I want them to be happier kids today, but I'm also focused on enhancing future workforce and economic development efforts for the state. At Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central West Virginia, our volunteer mentors - or Bigs as they are called - help young people - we call them Littles at Big Brothers Big Sisters - facing adversity build greater confidence, improve academically and avoid risky behaviors. Kids like Little D. When he came to us more than two years ago, he wasn't very confident and his grades were, how shall I put it...horrible!!!! But he's been matched with his Big Brother and they are the perfect pair. His Big Brother has helped Little D become more confident, develop key life skills and improve academically. So much, in fact, that his teacher called us to tell us just how much he had improved and to thank us for the programs we provide! One hundred percent, of the money raised stays in the local community to match more children with caring adult mentors. As a thank you for the team’s support and enthusiasm, Big Brothers Big Sisters hosts a fun, celebratory party at a local bowling center to congratulate each team for its fundraising goals! No bowling expertise is required! So, join The Pilot and his Pin Crew at Town 'n Country Lanes on Saturday, April 29 from 4:00 - 10:00 p.m. to have some BIG fun and create a BIG impact on the youth of West Virginia! Can't be part of the crew? Please consider donating to our team. Contact me at 304.746.7900 with any questions!
