I would like to transform several acres of our farm into an area conducive to promoting our besieged pollinators ~ Bees, Butterflies & Hummingbirds. With milkweed & many indigenous plants already supporting and promoting habitat for bees & butterflies, I have been planting more Milkweed, Coneflowers, Tithonia (Mexican Sunflowers), Sage, Salvia & prairie grasses in addition to vegetable gardens for years. But in order to put substantial acreage into pollinator sanctuary status, more equipment and supplies are needed than my meager budget will allow. I seek enough funding for a used tractor w/ attachments for ground preparation/planting plus purchases of plants beneficial to our bees & butterflies (for ex. Goldenrod, Meadow Blazing Star, Joe Pye Weed, chives, etc.). Having been in our family for 149 years, the farm becomes a Sesquicentennial site next year, which is my target date of fully realizing this important project that impacts our food supply and the future health of our world. My cousin is a bee keeper w/ an apiary at the few acres left in another family farm nearby who is also an advocate for pollinator sanctuaries. This is an extremely significant cause that I will continue to champion by any means available regardless of the amount of funds raised!
