The Richard P. Gilman Fund
Organized by: Devon Gilman
October 21, 2016
October 21st will always be a tough day for my family. As most of you know, last year I was in a car accident. At 24 weeks pregnant, it was the last thing I wanted to happen. Our son, Richard Paul Gilman, "Ricky", did not make it and our family forever changed because of it. But what his death has taught us is that life is too short and too fragile to not take advantage of the opportunities we have. Right now as we come upon what would be Ricky's first birthday, Paul and I are taking the opportunity to give back in his name and honor his legacy. We have chosen to give back to the hospital where we had him, Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, and more specifically the NICU department within the children's hospital. According to the hospitals website, they take in over 350 premature newborns and infants a year from the 24-counties of southeast Georiga. That is a lot of babies! The least we can do, is make their stay more comfortable while they fight the biggest, and earliest fight of their lives.
While monetary donations are always appreciated, the hospital informed me of a few physical items that they always accept for the nursery:
Baby blankets (new or homemade)
Noise makes/lullaby sound machine
Preemie or infant hats (new or homemade)
Baby rattles or other appropriate newborn toys (anything soft!)
Gift cards (visa, Walmart)
All of these items MUST be new or homemade. They will not accept anything used because these babies are so fragile.
100% of all monetary donations and items will all go directly to the hospital in Ricky's name. While donations can be made here, we are going to ask that you send all other items directly to us no later then October 17, that way we can do one big drop off on his birthday.

Again I can't thank you all enough! This is what Ricky would've have wanted. Let's do this!
