The Right to Breathe Mobilization
Organized by: Philly Thrive
Thank you, and Congratulations!
May 20, 2016
EVENT DATE May 15, 2016
We believe that all people have the right to breathe. On May 7th, we're reclaiming that right. And we need your support to make it happen.
Now is our moment. The refinery's poison, their plans to expand, and the apathy of city officials has led us to this: we need a show of strong, bold, and dignified action from residents across the region. Here is what your donation will do:
- A $50 donation will buy paint and art materials so we can communicate our message beautifully and boldly.
- $150 lets us print 500 posters for volunteers to spread all across the city.
- $500 will help pay for a bus to allow people from far reaches of the region to be part of the mobilization.
- $1000 will provide a stipend for an organizer in Philadelphia to do local coordination and training.
The Full Story:
We are a movement of mothers, doctors, artists, youth--just people, trying to make a life for ourselves here in
Philadelphia. But we face a threat: the
Philadelphia Energy Solutions oil refinery endangers our fundamental human right to breathe clean air. PES is poisoning us now--and we won't take any more.
We're giving PES a choice: they have until May 7th to withdraw their proposal to expand their toxic operations. If, by May 7th, they refuse to protect our right to breathe, we pledge to hold the first mass demonstration of Philadelphians at the refinery in the company's history. If you want to make history in Philadelphia with us, Take the Pledge to stand with us on May 7th.
This is a historic moment in Philadelphia. Come May, we will have hundreds of people gathered in the streets, marching on the refinery. This has never happened before. But with your help, this will only be the beginning.
We need funds to support the movement. We'll need funds for materials, posters, training, art and visuals to make our message clear, and above all, bail money to support those courageous enough to risk arrest in order to show the world the harm PES is doing. After we march home and the dust clears, we need people to continue making phone calls, organizing meetings, and deepening relationships.
Donating now is not just giving to support a Mobilization. It's giving to grow a movement.
We also need boots on the ground, volunteering to grow this movement: click here to volunteer for the Mobilization.
