THE RIVER OF LIFE INITIATVES FUND CAMPAIGN
Organized by: John Piermont Montilla
EVENT DATE Jul 18, 2016
Help bring the River of Life Initiative (ROLi) at the AIDS Conference in Durban South Africa on July 18-22, 2016
In 2013, the Peer Enabling Each other’s Recovery Support (PEERS) Network - a mentorship program run by exemplary young men who survived violence in the Philippines developed the River of Life Initiatives (ROLi) designed to promote young people's meaningful engagement in the response on human trafficking, substance abuse and HIV and AIDS in the Philippines.
ROLi offers a fun-filled self assessments, creative workshops, and collaborative work integrated with elements of game playing in the context of risk reduction (e.g., risk and protective factor scoring, competition and collaboration with others, and completion of tasks and quests) in actual and virtual spaces. The initiative uses a Rubric dubbed as “Get to Zero and Be Hero” that generate a Young Key Population Scorecard that drives behaviour change, self-help and health seeking through guided personal decision-making, peer group interactions and service provider interaction.
Our programme was included as a good practice example of service delivery to key populations in the WHO 2014 consolidated guidelines on HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for key populations.
The WHO technical brief can be accessed here: page 23 at http://www.who.int/hiv/pub/guidelines/briefs__sw_2014.pdf
The Key Population Score Card Process is our contribution in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda supporting the key message “Leave No One Behind” along HIV, drug abuse and violence prevention among young people.
For the moment until the conference, we are raising 1,500 USD to publish the Case Studies and sell Get to Zero and Be a Hero merchandises for exhibition and for sale and generate funds in the Global Village Marketplace program of the AIDS Conference to sustain and scale up the initiatives in Asia and the Pacific in the midst of the ASEAN Integration.
Specifically, at the conference, we will:
- Showcase 10 inspiring individual stories of change impacted by our River of Life Initiatives (ROLi),
- Sell get to zero and be a hero merchandises (artworks, conference-inspired memorabilias, and hand crafted souvenir items); and
- Display the Get to Zero and Be a Hero Backdrop for signature campaign to support the Key Population Score Card Process along the Sustainable Development Goal agenda.
We will recognize your financial contribution in the published work entitled "Leave no One Behind: Inspiring Stories of Change, the River of Life Initiatives experience".
After the conference, we will provide you an accomplishment report and will continue the online fundraising for new goals. Your donations will keep our work in the fight against human trafficking, drug abuse and HIV and help defining the role of the survivor communities in achieving the sustainable development goals agenda by 2030.
