THE STORY:

Hip Hip Hooray, the time has come! In early 2017, The Simple Kind is headed to Latvia to pioneer our first international production partnership!

This past year we’ve tried to be as intentional as we can to learn to the needs of people involved in the fashion industry and/or situations of exploitation around the world. We’ve spent time in Cambodia, Thailand, The Netherlands, and Hungary with the specific purpose of listening to individuals, organizations, and businesses who are working to bring hope & change in these areas; to learn from their successes and failures and better understand the real needs they have seen.

We’ve also been learning a lot about running a business! Our Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter lines were designed and sewn in house, and then sold via our website, local markets, and wholesale. We’ve begun to understand our particular strengths and what will allow us to continue growing as a business. Our heart has always been to create opportunities for women, but we haven’t been in a stable place to do that until now. After an incredibly formational year that has challenged our blind spots & encouraged us in our strengths, we feel like the gears are in place for us to move forward with that vision.

We’re raising $3,000 to kickstart our partnership with Freedom61, an incredible organization in Latvia that's empowering women coming out of exploitive situations to embrace lives of health and wholeness. Part of this process is vocational training & financial saving, and that’s where we come in!

Eastern Europe is known for its rich textiles and colorful folk art. We have the opportunity to source fabric for our upcoming year from wholesalers in Latvia who specialize in high-quality linen and traditionally embroidered ribbon. Riga, Latvia’s capital city, has a vibrant maker scene where their cultural strengths are being celebrated loudly by young creatives! Our hope is that our partnership with Freedom61 will be part of fostering culturally, socially, and financially relevant skills. We're excited to see how this partnership progresses and grows in the coming months and years.

What will the money go towards?

The money will go toward a portion of our production costs (supplies, international shipping), as well as a portion of our travel expenses (we’re visiting Latvia in late January to teach the production of our designs). The Spring/Summer 2017 collection is taking an exciting turn-- along with pieces for babies and toddlers, we’ll be releasing similar designs in women’s sizes! The mood of this collection is bright, light and airy-- imagine yourself picking wildflowers in a linen dress in the shadow of a Scandinavian farmhouse. Kinda heart-achingly perfect... right?? That’s what is coming, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Why aren’t we seeking out private investors or small business loans as we grow?

We believe that there are dozens and dozens of folks who share our passion for people & fashion but aren’t sure where to start, and we want to invite them to be a part of what we are doing! We are fully aware that our success this year has been because we have some really faithful supporters. This isn’t just our story, but yours as well!

As a thank you, we’re offering a 25% discount for one item from our Spring/Summer collection for donations of $100 or more.

Thank you all for your endless support & kindness! We love you!
