Our family is once again bowling in the 8th annual charity event "Pinning Down a Cure" to raise money for the battle against HLH (hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) which is the disease that took the life of Abigail Buckner (our neighbor) when she was only 2-1/2 years old. HLH (Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) is a rare disorder of the immune system primarily affecting young infants and children. HLH lays dormant until a virus triggers the immune system to ‘not turn off’ and your histiocytes (blood cells) go crazy and can attack your blood, skin, liver and central nervous system. HLH is so rare that there is little research into its cause and treatment. HLH is considered an "orphan disease," meaning it strikes too few people to generate government-supported research.
