BENEFITING: Prestige Preparatory Academy
Good day. Pastor Dixon here.
Prestige Preparatory Academy (PPA) in North Charleston, South Carolina is a public charter school sponsored by the Charleston County School District (CCSD) and is CCSD's first all-male Charter School serving predominantly lower income students (ages 5-10 years old...Kindergarten to 5th grade).
Prestige Prep, a school offering predominantly African-American young males a pathway to success instead of a pipeline to prison, opened in the fall of 2016 and its students are not required to pay tuition in order to receive a quality education in a structured environment. But, even before opening, PPA received minimal support from CCSD. So, after opening for the 2016-2017 school year, problems rapidly developed that have jeopardized the vision of founder and principal J Harrison Coleman and the future potential of the young men who attend PPA, to wit:
1) CCSD does not provide PPA students with a major tool needed for the school to survive…transportation. Due to financial problems after opening last year, PPA struggled to provide continued transportation for its students. So, not far into the school year, it was forced to suspend bus service.
2) The loss of bus service resulted in the school instantly losing more than 20 students. Over time, this has caused an even greater drop in enrollment as community schools have become more attractive to parents merely because of convenience. And, of course, decreased enrollment results in decreased funding.
Therefore, the young men of Prestige Preparatory Academy are asking for your help. Will you contribute financially toward the rental or purchase (ideal situation) of a bus for use during the 2017-2018 school year? Prestige Preparatory Academy is a 501(c)3 non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. (NOTE: Donation by check can be made out to Prestige Preparatory Academy at the address below.)
It has been proven that a quality early education in a structured nurturing environment is the way to successfully counter the school-to-prison pipeline and to give our less fortunate children an opportunity to become successful members of and contributors to our American society. Will you help make this success a reality for the young men of Prestige Preparatory Academy?
Principal J Harrison Coleman will gladly share the vision of this great school whenever requested and is available to talk by phone. Please reach out now. Time is of the essence.
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful consideration.
