My Trail Story:
Ever since I graduated from UT, the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail around Lady Bird Lake (then "Town Lake") has been a place where I go to feel like myself again. It's where I officially fell in love with running. And fell in love with Austin outside of the University of Texas. Over the years it has enabled me to push myself and find myself during times of uncertainty, and gives me peace. Even during the six years I didn't live in Austin, I visited Town Lake every chance I could.
I've seen it grow in progress, grow in popularity, and have explored different paths around the trail during different times of my life. If there is ONE THING in Austin am most grateful for, it's the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail.
Over time I have also been able to become more involved with The Trail Foundation (TTF) through volunteering and being an advocate. I am honored to be able to raise money for TTF. And, in doing so, I am pushing myself to do my first half marathon since I've had my boys, who are now 3 and 8 months. I see this as a life lesson I can now pass on to my boys - doing something important for the community, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
Please consider a donation for TTF, and all that it stands for in the city of Austin. New projects will include ADA accessibility as well as environmentally considerate design in order to mitigate impact on natural areas. The next landmark project (since the Boardwalk) has begun and will replace a decades-old bridge under Congress Avenue. This outdated bridge will give way to a sweeping replacement that will eliminate the blind corner and associated safety issues.
