Destination imagination is a cause driven, challenge based Competition which teaches children the creative process from imagination to innovation. It identifies young talent, inspires, encourages and equips them to be next generation of innovators and leaders. The program prides in helping children grow to be creative out of the box thinkers, celebrate team work, research and to present the project convincingly.
7C’s is a team from Windemere Ranch and Gale Ranch Middle School in San Ramon, CA who took up the DI Program challenge in the PITCH & PLAY segment and have come out as winners in both the Regional & State Finals. They are now set to take their community Service Offering to the Global Finals held between, May 21st to May 24th at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. This event is said to be the biggest in DI history, with over 1300 finalists participating in the challenges from 45 states in the United States and 14 other countries. 7C’s are representing our Schools, Community and the State of California in this distinguished gathering. The team has been working over the last 6 months on a Central challenge 'PITCH and PLAY’, in which the team had to
- Identify a real Community Need
- Design and carry out a Project that addresses the real community need
- Use Play to meet the goals of the Project
- Use a team-created Elevator Pitch to enlist at least one Community Partner
- Create a live Presentation that features the Project
The Community Need chosen by the 7C's was to encourage the Community to GO ORGANIC and THRIVE! They have worked with the San Ramon Valley Farmer's Market as their Community Partner and have raised awareness of the benefits of Organic food by doing Door to Door sales, awareness campaigns and via presence at the Local Farmer's market. The funds raised via these efforts were handed over to the Contra Costa & Solana County Food Bank (http://www.foodbankccs.org/) to share nutritious meals to the needy and Climate Healers (www.climatehealers.org) a non-profit organization promoting the cause and spirit of eco-friendly living.
The cost of participation in the global finals is upwards of 18K USD. The team is reaching out to the community to take their cause to finals.
