THE STORY:

Yesterday was a day when my worst fear occurred, I had to make a choice that would allow my 4-legged child Achilles to live or die. Achilles woke up from an evening nap with limited mobility in his back legs, trembling, and was vomiting. After a couple hours of no improvement I decided he couldn't wait till the morning to see a vet and took him straight to the Emergency Vet Clinic. After a series of x-rays, blood work, and two ultrasounds they found he had fluid build up in his abdomen but couldn't find anything internally wrong on the scans that would be causing the fluid build-up. They gave me two options: Exploratory Surgery to find the cause or Euthanasia. The decision was an easy one for me even though I knew there was going to be a large cost associated with it. We opted for Exploratory Surgery and transferred him to another Emergency Vet Clinic that had a surgeon on staff. Achilles has made it through the surgery. They found a perforated ulcer that they repaired and took two biopsies to make sure there are no other issues. He is in stable condition and will be staying at the clinic for 3 days post-surgery till he can come home. This outcome was better than we could've imagined since the surgeon and vet thought that he had a cancerous tumor that burst and that there was a chance there was nothing they could do if it had spread. I am so grateful that my husband, who is away on military duty, will be able to come home after 7 months and be able to love on Achilles again and not have the day he left for duty be his last memory of him. My husband and I love our babies more than anything and no amount of money would stop us from getting Achilles the treatment and surgery he needs no matter how much of a financial strain it is on us. At this point we are currently looking at $7,000 for the surgery, post surgery treatment, emergency vet fees, blood work, x-rays, and ultrasounds. We are not the type of people to ask for help when it comes to money, but Achilles is our child and just like a human-child we would do anything for him. We are asking for help and every little bit counts. Anyone that can afford to make a donation would be greatly appreciated. We don't expect to raise $7,000, but anything at this point would be a huge help. No donation is to small and we will be forever greatful for your kindness. This will take a small part of the financial burden off our shoulders.
