Imagine yourself at home, waiting in fear for the door to open at night, wondering what is going to happen to you, your children, your pets? Imagine being a young child who has witnessed horrific abuse at home and trying to understand why your family is not the same as everyone else’s. Imagine being a young girl, entering the dating world and sensing that something is not right with your relationship, or being a young adolescent, trying to fit in at school but being bullied because you are perceived as “different”. These are some of the many experiences a victim of abuse might endure in isolation. Now imagine summoning the courage to call Bridges. There is a compassionate voice on the line, telling you that you are not alone, that there is help. Imagine your first night in a safe place where you can sleep without fear. Imagine watching your children receive counseling as you rebuild your lives. Bridges is with victims during some of their lowest moments. We provide support to individuals of all ages whether they be navigating the court system, a hospital stay, or finding that first job, apartment and new life that now is obtainable. Support a Program That Makes a Difference. Bridges makes that difference in 14 communities throughout Southern New Hampshire. A non-profit advocacy service dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault since 1977, Bridges advocates provided services to 2,373 clients including peer support groups for 41 women and children, 2,727 nights of emergency shelter and 11,248 nights of housing in their transitional housing program during 2014. Bridges’ impact in our community doesn’t stop there. Bridges provided educational outreach, with topics including bullying and healthy relationships in local schools at all grade levels including Rivier University and Nashua Community College, working with over 3,400 students and community members in 2014. Bridges advocates also provide invaluable expertise, compassion and support in the form of court advocacy, emergency department crisis advocacy, support groups and a 24-hour crisis support line. Their services are free, confidential and available 24/7. I am so proud of the work that Bridges does in our community, but these successes would not be possible without your generous support. Help us provide services to one more victim with your tax deductible contribution. With your help, we can break the cycle of violence. Written with Love by a member of the BOD
