BENEFITING: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
ORGANIZER: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
I'm at it again....training for my third marathon!
This year, I've joined the Greater New York Chapter's TEAM ALS to complete the ING New York Marathon in hopes to find a cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease.
You may be asking yourself, is Gillian crazy? The answer: Yes, I am.
This past May, I volunteered at the 10th Annual Ernie Wallengren Hoopfest in my hometown of Calabasas, CA. Ernie is my boyfriend (Seth)'s father. He passed away 10 years ago from this horrible disease. I was inspired by Seth's family, Ernie's story, and the community, to find a way to get even more involved in hopes to finding a cure and finding it fast. Nobody should have to go through the pain that Ernie and his family endured.
I researched ways to get involved in fundraising and doing my part, then I came across Team ALS. To run another marathon, or not to run another marathon....that was the question....
Well, I settled on it and here we are....2013 ING NYC MARATHON, HERE I COME!
Now, here's the other thing...This team is based out of NYC and I'm here in Los Angeles, which means I am training 100% on my own. If I can't get your donations (which, I hope I can!!) I will need LOTS of words of encouragement on my journey, or better yet, join me for a run!
I never had a chance to meet Ernie, but I know that if I did, he would be telling me to "Never give up" and that is just what I intend to do.
Spread the word, share my fundraising page, and together let's find a cure for ALS.
