BENEFITING: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
ORGANIZER: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
I have always wanted to run a marathon and am so unbelievably excited to run my first one in the best city in the world – New York City!
I have run half marathons all over the world, and even signed up for a full marathon once, but didn’t run it. After the Boston marathon bombing I thought a lot about the people who were still trying to finish the race who were robbed of that amazing feeling of crossing the finish line after months of training and fund raising and my heart broke. Not only were they not able to finish, but they also had to worry about their loved ones safety and face the horror of the situation.
Right then and there I decided I was going to run the NYC Marathon. And I knew I would find a way to run it for an ALS charity to support 2 of my friends who lost their lives to this terrible disease. I am running to raise money and I am running to stop this disease before it passes on to their children. I am running because they can’t. I am running because I can. I am running to show people they cannot scare us away. I am running to show the spirit and courage of a marathoner will not break or run away in terror.
As I train, I think about the people who have passed in my life and feel a special connection to them. I am looking forward to having 26.2 miles of that special connection time on November 3 and know with them by my side, there is no way I won’t finish!
