The BackPack Initiative
Organized by: Tim Bruhn
So when I was with PopCap, I was part of a team called PopSquad, and we'd occasionally do some community service - stuffing bags of clothes, or rehabbing animals, or peeling potatoes - that sort of thing.
I liked it, but since I don't work there anymore, I made my own group called Project Bruhnicorn, the idea is to find a community need from time to time and pitch in.
Fall is coming quick, and with Fall comes school time. There are, sadly, plenty of kids in Seattle that are homeless, and as a formerly homeless youth they have my sympathies. That's why I'm going to do The Backpack Initiative in the next week or so. Youthcare, a nonprofit in Seattle, addresses some of Seattle's homeless youth needs - they've posted an Amazon list of back-to-school items that their kids need.
Since I'm the frugal type, I'll be sourcing those items inexpensively. Where you come in is this: Pitch in with your $$$s. Depending on how much money we raise, we can throw together 24 or more backpacks.
Questions, comments or concerns are welcome.
