The Benson's Journey to Parenthood
Organized by: Ashley Benson
We are the Benson's. Shawn and I met in 2007 while working at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio (at the time, Shawn was a soldier and I was working as a civilian; we are both Army veterans). It was love at first sight!! It didn't take long to realize that we were meant to be together. We married in 2008. Shortly after we wed we attempted to start our family, as we both had dreamed of having children someday. We tried for a couple of years without a single pregnancy. We sought out help from fertility specialist only to find that I had endometriosis and Shawn had bilateral vericoceles, a low sperm count and low motility. It was the perfect combination for infertility. Since the start of our journey to parenthood 6 years ago, we have been through continuous heartache, surgeries, hormones, 2 failed IUI attempts and monthly disappointment when we realize that all of our hard work failed yet again. We have come to the realization that a natural pregnancy is just not HIS plan for us. So we sat down and looked at all of our possible options and felt that adoption would not only be the hope in fulfilling our dreams of parenthoood, but our chance to make an immeasurable difference in the life of a child who needs a loving family. In that moment we knew adoption must be HIS plan for us. We were extremely excited about our decision to adopt and started researching agencies to get started on our journey. We selected the agency that we feel offers the most protection and guarantee of a healthy infant and started discussing the process with them. Then the dreaded question arose, "how much will it cost?" We were taken aback at the price, $40,000 when it's all said and done! Now we know that amount sounds absurd, but to us, having a baby to call our own is worth every penny! Unfortunately, we do not have that type of money just lying around, I mean, who does?
That's where you come in. We are asking for your help. Please help us in our journey to become parents with a donation. ANY amount that you are willing to donate is greatly appreciated. We are not looking to make any profit; if we receive an amount greater than the cost of our adoption we will donate it to the Fisher House Foundation to help support disabled veterans and their families. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for your generous donations.
