Cancer sucks. There's nothing pretty about it. After watching my dad battle leukemia for five years before God called him home, I thought I would never have to deal with the effects of cancer in my life ever again. Boy was I wrong. During my Afghanistan deployment, I met the most amazing friend who truly made the deployment enjoyable. Joana went out of her way to ensure I had a birthday cake for my special day, put together game nights, brought people together from different countries (from Germany to Finland), and would drop everything to help me with whatever circumstance I was dealing with. We had a BLAST! So, we both survived the deployment, come home to our families and enjoy every minute of our time home, only to find out a year later that she has breast cancer. Not "might have" or "possibly", but a resounding "100%". The medical and living expenses will soon pile up for the Carroll family as they embark on this journey through beating cancer. In an effort to help them, my husband and I will be biking 200 miles in the July 2014 Seattle to Portland bike ride in honor of the Carroll family. Please help us support this family! Cancer sucks but we will help them get through it.
