CHICKENS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THIS MISSION, TOO!
April 27, 2016
BENEFITING: NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania
EVENT: Over the Edge Scranton 2016
EVENT DATE: Jun 11, 2016
Hi, everyone! Allow us to introduce ourselves. We're The Chicken Coop. You can call us "Team Chicken" if you prefer. Either way, our team name means we love the #OTEScranton event, and we love the organization it supports, NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania, even more! But for one reason or another, we are simply unable to rappel off a 14-story building at this time. Yet we definitely wanted to help this great cause. Nothing like this has ever been done in Scranton, after all, and building better communities at the neighborhood level is so very important to our future sustainability.
So we're raising money as a team to support a specific and special element of the NeighborWorks mission, and that is HOME REPAIR SERVICES AND PROJECTS FOR OUR LOCAL DISABLED VETERANS. NeighborWorks has an ever-growing list of veterans who have come to us seeking assistance. Some need bathroom modifications, such as grab bars or elevated toilets, to help them safely age in place. Others need handicapped-access ramps built or repaired. Still others just need a few new boards nailed into a porch or a fresh paint job or maybe help with landscaping work they can no longer do themselves.
Our message is simple: These heroes served us. Now we're taking up the challenge to help NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania serve them. Any donation you make to this campaign will directly benefit local veterans and the projects described above. And any donation is significant!
In return for the money we raise, we'll agree to sit in a mock Chicken Coop for a period of time during the Over The Edge event on June 11, and, if you insist, maybe we'll even put a chicken hat on our heads and let you take our picture. We encourage you to come by and chat with us about the important cause of veterans and housing -- and maybe talk us into doing the actual rappel next year!
NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania is part of the congressionally chartered National NeighborWorks Network, which includes more than 240 independent, community-based nonprofit agencies serving more than 4,500 urban, suburban and rural communities across the United States.
