We are the Dimarzios, a husband and wife team from Austin climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in August 2015 to help raise money for Limbs for Life. Not only is this trip a life long dream of ours, but we also want to help raise money to provide support for those that are struggling with limb loss. This cause is near and dear to our hearts as our best friend is an amputee. We are intimately aware of the struggles amputee’s face physically, emotionally, and financially.
The Climbing Dimarzios fundraiser will help provide prosthetic limbs for low-income amputees who cannot otherwise afford it. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund four prosthetic limbs. All funds go directly to Limbs for Life and donations are tax deductible.
Limbs for Life Foundation (LFL) is a global charity dedicated to serving amputees in need and raises awareness of the challenges facing amputees. LFL works with prosthetic clinics nationwide to restore mobility and independence to amputees faced with staggering emotional and financial lifestyle changes.
While high-tech prosthetic devices are available, they are out of reach for many low-income amputees at a cost of $10,000-$15,000 and up. Through partnerships with local prosthetic clinics, Limbs for Life can provide a limb for $2,500-$3,500.
Currently, LFL has a waiting list of 203 applicants. Once the application is completed, the wait can average 10 months or longer. The Climbing Dimarzios fundraiser will help shorten the waiting list and return amputees to the activities of life.
