THE STORY:

RYOT and the Huffington Post present "The Crossing," a virtual reality film and immersive reporting series hosted by Susan Sarandon chronicling the refugee crisis as it unfolds in Greece. The shores of the Mediterranean see thousands of refugees every day who arrive on small boats, fleeing from the Middle East in search of safety, economic stability and a better life. Directed by Tyson Sadler

100% of funds donated will go the the following organizations working on the ground in Greece and to organizations that RYOT works with on the refugee crisis. RYOT Foundation exists to be able to take US donations and pass them on to partners on the ground.

During Susan's trip she saw up close the organizations that were working tirelessly to help arriving refugees that she wants to bring attention to.

RYOT FOUNDATION

Established in 2011, the RYOT Foundation was founded with the sole aim of funding the creation of Haiti’s first and only little league baseball team, the Tabarre Tigers. The mission of the RYOT Foundation has since expanded. Through innovative projects and strategic partnerships, RYOT Foundation now focuses on sustainable ways to foster hope in the midst of despair and to give a voice to the voiceless. The RYOT Foundation funds programs that allow kids to be kids, no matter what their surroundings dictate. RYOT Foundation works hand in hand with RYOT News to give people a way to directly impact the news they are reading, by linking every story to causes that are relevant, effective and making an impact on current events. The Foundation also sends first responders to post-disaster zones, helping to get aid where it's most needed.

ORGANIZATIONS

Because We Carry

A group of Dutch women who collect baby carriers, baby slings and baby Bjorns for refugee mothers.

Dirty Girls of Lesvos

When refugees arrive on Lesvos in unstable, overcrowded boats, they are drenched withy sea water. They are given new clothes and their perfectly good, but wet clothes, are discarded - adding to the environmental problems of landfill Lesvos. Dirty Girls collects and launders the clothing at a commercial laundry. They are sorted and re-distributed so that they can be reused.

Proem-Aid

A nonprofit Spanish search and rescue association made up of emergency professionals doing sea rescue in Lesvos. All work for free, pay their own way, and are on call 24/7. Their only expenses are to keep the boats on the water.

Off Track Alliance: Moria Medical Center

A volunteer run medical center near Moria Camp where doctors provide aid to new arrivals on Lesvos.
