The Christie Foundation: Why give . . . Why now?
Can you ever recall a time when health care has been more at the forefront than it is today? Regardless of your perspective on “The Affordable Care Act,” there are some universal issues relevant to everyone:
- Everyone wants quality health care
- Everyone wants to be informed
- Everyone wants to know how to take better care of themselves
The Christie Foundation embraces its mission of providing opportunities to promote and enhance medical education, and supports Christie Clinic’s vision of creating a healthy community.
This is why we focus on educating the future generation of health care workers. In 2013, the Foundation presented more than $130,000 in scholarship awards to 91 full-time students enrolled in a variety of medical curriculums from first year to graduate level. Since 1996, the Christie Foundation has awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships to students. As a Charity Running Partner of the 2014 Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon, funds raised will be used to provide scholarships to students at Parkland pursuing a degree in Sports Medicine or related field of study.
This is why we focus on educating our community. In 2013, our Living Well Community Education Series covered a variety of topics such as: cardiac stress testing, eye care, mental health, “The Affordable Care Act,” and living well “tips.” We also held our second annual Christie Foundation Runner’s Symposium, to support the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon. Over 200 participants heard a panel of Christie physicians discuss medical issues pertinent to runners. Clinical departments like Transformations, Dermatology, Cardiology, Podiatry, and Physical Therapy were also there to provide assistance and answer questions.
This is why we support other non-profit organizations and their efforts to promote and enhance medical education. In 2013, the Christie Foundation supported community education programs through the Stephens Family YMCA, Parkland College Foundation, Champaign County Health Care Consumers, Faith In Place, and Crisis Nursery.
When it comes to issues surrounding health care education and creating a healthier community, we all need to get involved. Please consider partnering with us by making a gift to the Christie Foundation as a Charity Partner of The Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon.
